Week 2 Recap and Week 3 Bulletin

Summer is now in full swing, and Girls Inc. Summer Camp has been full of positive energy and inspiration. Week 2 was filled with the celebration of culture and learning about our individual differences that make us unique.

🖌️ Campers created crafts including Luchador Masks of Mexico, Paper Mache Heritage Flags, and self-reflection faces.

🎉 Our intention is always to provide fun learning opportunities, and this week we had two special guests: The Children’s Museum “Star Lab” 🌠 and Craig Norton’s Drummer Circle! 🪘 The Star Lab allowed campers to explore the constellations in a Planetarium, and the Drummers Circle provided exposure to a hands-on, minds-on African drumming experience where girls also danced and talked about leadership.

🥻Cultural dress up day on Wednesday allowed campers and staff to represent the heritage of their choice.

🧬This week’s STEM Challenge with Mr. EJ featured Roller Coaster Design! By using the engineering design process, campers were tasked with creating a thrilling rollercoaster ride. Campers learned about the science of roller coasters, including various forms of energy. Using common materials such as craft sticks, paper, and tape, campers designed a track for a marble to land safely in a cup at the bottom.

👟Campers enjoyed a variety of physical activities throughout the week including water games, obstacles, and black top games.

⭐ STEM Stars this week were Aliyah Diaz from Unit 6 and Luz Mena from Unit 4!

Unit 7/8 had the chance to go to the East Rock Hiking Trail on Monday where they ate lunch at the peak of the hike, the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History on Tuesday, got a guided tour at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center on Wednesday, and went Roller Skating at Roller Magic on Thursday. Unit 9+ campers also got to experience Roller Magic on Friday.
