Week 1 Recap and Week 2 Bulletin

This week has proved to be an exciting first week of camp! This week, our mythbusters debunked common misconceptions through activities such as measuring reflexes, create multi-colored spinners (which morph colors into one when spun), piecing together Diversity Quilts, and crafting their very own bouncy balls. During STEM time, Mr. EJ introduced the STEAM classroom expectations, and presented the STEAM challenge where campers had to create a mystery build using the assigned fictitious budget of $20 and the materials that included basic office supplies. Physical activities included the Balloon Relay, Body Moves, stretching, getting-to-know-you games for campers to get to become familiar with their units, and (of course) water games to keep the campers cool throughout the hot days. Due to the summer heat wave, all units circled inside throughout each camp day to ensure their safety, and we will continue this practice as needed with adequate water breaks.

Field trips this week for Unit 7/8 included the Pez Museum, Keelers Tavern Museum, and The New Haven Escape Room. Friday the campers reflected on the trips and discussed what fun facts they learned as they began exploring Connecticut, in addition to swimming in the pool to cool off, while bonding with their unit.

STEM Stars this week were Grace Negron from Unit 2 and Aubrey Craft from Unit 4!

Please check lost and found if your child is missing items.
Remember a brown bag lunch (if bringing from home) and water bottles to be refilled throughout the day.

Monday: East Rock Trail
Tuesday: The Peabody museum
Wednesday: Mohegan Sun Museum
Thursday: Roller Magic

Lunch will NOT be provided by Meriden Schools for field trips for the duration of Summer Camp. Please send your child with a brown bag lunch Monday – Thursday for weeks 2-10.
